Joey Garcia Standridge
Hi, guys, my name is Joseph Garcia Standridge, but I prefer Joey because it stands out more to my personality, and I am the founder and creator of JGSCOMICS.
I've been making my own comic books since I was 14 years old, so I started this in 2019, which was a good year before COVID happened.
What made me start making comics?
Well this was way before i thought about making comics i was very young i would say 8 or 9 years old i did create my very own superhero that i play as name All Star i was wearing a captain america shirt and his powers were to shoot stars and i used play pretend with my friends back then and so he was my first character i created back then, and then so my second character i made in 2016 this character is a detective he wears like a red and black jacket i kinda forgotten about the character until December 2024 in 2016 thats when i first start drawing my characters creating these cartoon people back then i really did thought about being an animator so later in 2018 i made another character which is Agent Isaac but i did named him Power-Man which i dont know why i thought about that. So in 2019, that's when I started making my own comics. I was bored one day, and that's when it gave me that idea, and it started as a hobby.
2. What inspired me?
When I was little, like 3 or 4 years old, Spider-Man was the character that I was inspired by because he's always been my top 10 superhero. He inspired me to be a better person, and not only him; I have a few more people who inspired me, like Stan Lee, SML SuperMarioLogan, and Mcjuggernuggest. Stan Lee inspired me to create a whole universe after watching Avengers: Endgame and made me create all of these characters. SML, he inspired me to create these great characters- some goofy ones and serious ones- and it's something I enjoy watching to make me laugh. Mcjuggernuggest, he inspired me to create these origins for my characters, make dark stories, give backstories and heartfelt moments, and make them more serious.
And one more thing: with Spider-Man, he inspired me to create this character, ThunderWing. This character has been a part of me throughout the years when I was doing YouTube.
3. What was I doing before making comic books?
Well, when I was about 12 years old, I made my first YouTube video in 2017. I asked my mom one day if I could make videos and post them on YouTube. She was like No, and I told her how things work on there, like people can get paid on YouTube just for making stupid videos and some other stuff that would make tons of money, but it will take a while, and she was like, " Yeah, it will take a long time, so no. So I didn't listen to her, and I went ahead and made my first video. I wanted to make plush content like SuperMarioLogan. So I only made 6 videos on there for like 2 months, in June and July 2017, and also I lost my phone, so i could’nt make anymore videos. I waited a whole year to get back on with a new phone; throughout 2018, I’ve been switching to plush content and vlogging. I didn't really know which one, and so in 2019 I decided to do vlogging; that's when I called myself JoeyDude. People have called me Joey a lot, so I really liked the name, and I say Dude a lot, so I called myself JoeyDude; it fits. So I've been vlogging for a year-plus. During 2019, that's when I started making comic books, and so in 2020, before we went into lockdown, I wanted to make my own live-action series. It was called The Darkness Series, which this series was inspired by The Devil Inside by Mcjuggernuggest, but due to COVID-19, I canceled the series. So I got bored one day, and I did a real-life series called the COVID-19 series, where I pretty much counted the days of when I was staying home, but this went in a wrong turn when I had to deal with my relationship problems, and then, for the last few months during the pandemic, my channel has been pretty bad after dealing with that situation at that time i was still sticking my character just acting i did a live stream talking about nonsense and made a video about someone and gave me a lot of bad backlash so much, and one day someone made a video about me and it was disgusting to watch and i was so pissed thats when i decied to quit YouTube. If you wanna know what I did for the ⅗ years, go watch this video when I did come back to YouTube in 2024. And yeah, I did come back to YouTube to try again.
4. What was the first career I wanted to do?
So I wanted to be an actor I love acting. I love watching these movies and the acting performances, and I wanted to make my own studio. Actually, I wanted to make a series before on my YouTube channel, but it didn't work out the way I wanted. I did join an acting class at my school, which I only did for 2 years in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. So this wasn't a thing I truly wanted, so I wasn't meant for it, but in 2021, that's when I decided I wanted to be a comic book creator. I didn't really have the things I needed, but I focused on school first before I did and went a head the thing I'm doing now.
5. The meaning behind JGSCOMICS and its purpose?
So in 2023, I was trying to decide what kind of comic book content i wanna make. I had three things:s Action, Drama, and Horror. So I wanted to do all three just in separate universes. So I thought about a name for my comics I called it JGSCOMICS. So, while I was dealing with my personal problems in 2023 and 2024, I was depressed in 2024. That year sucks. I didn’t really have any hope for anything, but after my ex and I stopped talking for months, that's when I thought maybe I should just create a superhero universe, as I did before, but make it very dark and draw it the way I did before. Thanks to the class I was taking at that time, I finally found my purpose in life and meaning, so the meaning of JGSCOMICS is making choices and taking responsibility for the things you do, and the things I did. I chose to leave my ex because I didn’t wanna hurt her anymore. I used to get mad over little things and make her cry, and people saw me as a bad person, and her family did too. If it wasn’t for me leaving that relationship, I wouldn’t be here today doing something that makes me happy and being the person that I am today, and just to always stay positive and to never give up on life. So it's about what you do- the decisions- if they’re good or bad. That's what I created for my characters, and they have meaning behind them, and the same for the villains. So I took all of these inspirations from life events. That’s why I say what I say
Joey: Just be yourself, Stay Positive, Never Give Up On Your Dreams, And Do What Makes You Happy.
